GENERAL MOTORS TECH TIPS

VALVE SPRINGS The dual springs on most big block Chevys will not tolerate much more than stock lift.Replace these springs with aftermarket springs to accommodate the higher lifts required by even fairly mild cams. Be sure to check lift before you start the engine.
1.6 AND OTHER INCREASED RATIO ROCKERS Higher-than-stock-ratio rockers move the pushrod closer to the stud. 
You must check the clearance between the pushrod and the head at maximum lift. 
Also check clearance at the guide plate if used.  Camcraft offers a "louis tool" to easily elongate the pushrod slot using a simple hand drill.
OIL SEALS Installing any higher lift cam may result in insufficient clearance between the spring retainer and the oil seal or valve guide. Assemble the valve,oil seal,and retainer without the spring. Then measure the clearance from the top of the seal to the retainer. Make sure the space is greater than the lift of the cam.
ROCKER ARM SLOTS High lift cams frequently cause the slot in the rocker arm to hit the stud. Always check the rise at maximum lift, change to long slot rockers if necessary. A bent paper clip makes a good measuring tool.
NON-ADJUSTABLE VALVE TRAINS
Buick, Olds, and Cadillac have non-adjustable valve trains. In some cases, longer pushrods are be required to accommodate  the smaller base circles required by the increased lift. CAMCRAFT stocks these special pushrods.
