Camcraft Newsletter April 1, 1999 Editor: Charles Reichardwww.camcraftcams.com Dear Customers, March has passed and spring is in the air. We had one of our busiest months ever. Almost of our customers and suppliers report being very busy as well. If youre not busy now its time to step back and see what you are doing wrong. We were supposed to start racing on Feb 28th but we have had rain every weekend and didnt get to the track until the 20th. I only got 1 full pass on my car that day with our new 370 cubic inch SB Chevy. It went a 9.39 @ 141. Last year our very best was 9.78 @ 138. That 1 run had a 1.31 60 ft time compared to an average of 1.375 last year. It looks like a fun year ahead! Winners! The 1st reported winners of the 1999 season came from Hollywood Machine in Richmond, VA. Opening day at Southside Speedway in Richmond, John Eversoles #98 Grand Stock qualified on the pole and won easily by almost half a lap. The second week he qualified on the pole and finished second. In the Charger class Chris Hopkins #3 took the win two weeks in a row. He qualified on the pole both times. He was also powered by a Hollywood engine. New Line Sheets We have had new line sheets printed and will be sending them out with orders and newsletters. If you are in New Jersey, Long Island, New York City , or Eastern PA. then ask our rep, Alan Huhn, for one when he calls on you. There are lots of new items available through us now.
We need pictures for our web site .Send us pictures of your cars using our cams (preferably with our decals visible) and we will put them on our web site. We need good color pictures, preferably in 5 x 7 size or larger. Be sure to include some background information about the car and driver. We have been having a problem with people speaking too quickly when leaving phone messages. Frequently we have to play the message back 3 or 4 times to get it all. This is especially true with phone numbers. It is also helpful if you will always leave your phone number with your message so we dont have to look it up. It makes an immediate reply easier for us and theres less chance of interruptions distracting us from returning your call promptly. Another thing that would be helpful would be a brief statement as to the purpose of your call. This may let us get back to you promptly with an answer rather than a "why did you call" question Dont forget our "cam saver" lifters!! These lifters have a .025 hole in the bottom of the lifter to meter oil directly to the face of the cam lobe. Engine builders who have used them say they do a great job reducing lobe wear on flat tappet cams in all out racing applications. We have them for small block Chevys as part # CAT-992D-16. Jobber price is $124.00. Ford lifters are part # CAT-2000D16 and jobber price is $134.00. We have a good stock of both numbers. Special prices are available on tray quantities with about a 2 to 3 week lead time. These lifters do not eliminate the need for proper break-in procedures Speaking of cam wear this is a good time to mention popular casting options on our small block and big block Chevy cams. P55 is a superior material (those doing the grinding may not think so because it is much harder to grind) to the standard proferal and is an increasingly popular option, especially among oval track racers. It is almost mandatory on all big block Chevy performance cams due to the poor lifter bore angles. The P55 option is $30.00 extra and we do have a Hi Chrome option and a K15 for $15.00. The P55 is the best material while the Hi Chrome and the K15 is a slightly lesser but significant upgrade. The K15 option is the most popular and offers a slightly wider lobe.
