Dear Customers,
We are hearing mixed reports from our customers about business conditions. Most race engine builders are very busy and have had a good year. Other shops report business is spotty. Up one week and down the next seems to be the norm. Many report only a small increase, if any, over last year.
Our business showed a nice increase at midyear, which has slowed a little in the summer months. We attribute this to increased success with our racing program and more interest in antique car restoration.
Don’t miss our new catalog devoted to Antique Performance Cams. Call or e-mail for your copy. It is now on our web site. All cams listed are ground on new castings and include flathead Ford V-8, all Nailhead Buicks, Poly 318 Chryslers, 56-64 Olds 324, 371 and 394, Y Block Fords, 270 & 302 GMC, and many more. Many of these castings are only available through Camcraft. The catalog is not printed so we prefer to send via e-mail. Just ask. charles@camcraftcams.com. Be sure to put something appropriate in the subject line, like Antique cam catalog, or it may get deleted. They are in Microsoft Excel format. We may have a limited supply of printed catalogs. We also stock many new factory performance cams as well and will have a catalog for those as well. The engines listed are those for which we have new castings. We do regrind other cams, for which there are no new castings available, to a more performance oriented profile. Rely on Camcraft to add that extra zip to your antique restoration or hot rod.
End of year testing
This time of year we are busy making cams for people wanting to try something a little different than what they normally run. With the end of the racing season near and most points battles over, now is an ideal time to try out those ideas you’ve been thinking about for next year. That different chassis setup or a different cam can be tested without loosing valuable points while you get it sorted out. Then next season you have a jump on the competition. While they sort out their new ideas, you are showing them the quick way around the track. Don’t waste these valuable non-points weeks running your same old combination. Try new things to prepare for next year. The same applies to any type of racing as well.
Price increases
There continues to be significant price increases in steel over the past year. We have delayed price increases as long as possible but the time has come to do it. The increase in flat tappet cam prices will be a very modest 3-4% or so. The roller cams are a different matter. Expect 6-8% increase in prices on about everything steel and some of the oddball combinations like 55 mm bearings and 4/7 firing swap may be even a bit more. We hate to see this happen but it is a hard fact of life. There will be a noticeable price increase in everything made of steel.
