Camcraft Newsletter
August 1, 2007
Editor: Charles Reichard
Dear Customers,
Here is the hottest part of the summer. We have had some nice weather recently with temperatures in the mid to high 80s with fairly cool evenings. It looks like we will have some serious heat in August though.
July was a pretty busy month for us. Many people are telling us that the year started off slow but is gradually picking up. Last year was a great year for us with the best 4th quarter in well over a decade. We had great hopes and expectations for 2007 but they were dashed early in the year. Things have gradually picked up but nowhere near last years levels. The performance side of the business seems pretty stable and growing. Sales are brisk in the Antique Performance Cams and the Factory Performance Cams. The hardcore racing business remains very healthy. Crate motors are becoming a larger threat every season in more areas.
Don’t forget our new Friday hours. We close at 2:00 pm on Fridays. Be sure that you notify your people that need to know this.
Our lifter polishing is going very well. We are winding up with a finish of 2-3 ra. That compares with a typical finish of 9-22 ra found on most new lifters. The smoother finish reduces friction and resists wear. As a special introductory offer we will have a special price on our direct oiling lifters with polished faces of $30.00 above the regular lifter price. This special will run through the 10th of September. Many places are getting $100.00 for this process. Don’t miss this opportunity. Order your lifters today.
Pettit Racing Engines powered Keith Rocco #78 to a win in the SK Modified class at Thompson Speedway. Another winner was Chris Tryon #5 at Lebanon Valley in the Sportsman class.
At Lebanon Valley, Chris Tryon’s Chrysler was followed closely by Frank Harper #25, Korey Sandstedt #80 and Danny Sanchez #63, all out of Dan Bedell Racing Engines IN Nassau, NY. Camcraft cams have frequently been in 4 of the top 5 cars at Lebanon.
On the drag race scene, Drummond Race Cars powered Lewes Jones to an Outlaw Street win at Cecil county Dragway. Lewis’ BB Chevy powered Camaro covered the 1/8 mile in 4.76 seconds @ 150 mph to take home the green.
Keen’s Automotive in Smithfield, VA reports the following wins; Jason Leftwich #92 Grand Stock picked up his first win at Langley Speedway. Ritchie German # 10 Super Street also got a win at Langley in July. 07/07/07 was a lucky date for Danny Edwards as he got yet another win in his Chrysler powered Late Model. Ken Roundtree picked up another win at East Carolina Speedway in his #43 Limited Late Model and Jeff Sampson got his 6th win in his #8 Wolf Truck at Langley Speedway.
On the APBA scene Keen powered Casey Browning to the National Championship in the 1.5L Hydroplane class. She won her qualifier and the feature. TJ Browning won the qualifier in the same boat on Sunday but the feature was rained out. He also won the qualifier in the 2.5L class on Sunday but wrecked in the feature. Scott Liddycoat, driving for the Team Extreme out of Canada, won the qualifier and the feature in the 5.0L hydro class on Sunday
