Dear Customers,

Here comes the hottest part of the summer. Kids are preparing to head back to school and need money for all the latest cool stuff on the market. People are spending money on those things rather than their toys now.

We got Victoria’s stuff moved to Baltimore this weekend where she will start graduate school at the University of Maryland at the end of this month. We are pleased with her situation. She will be living with an old school friend who just bought a house in Baltimore. She will still be working for us until about the 20th.

Business has slowed down a little which is fairly normal for this time of year. We will get another surge next month as most track’s points season ends and people try new things at the end of the season to get a head start on new combinations for next year. Racing business will taper off sharply in October and November and begin picking up again in December after the PRI show. Many people are reporting a little slower year overall and feel it is a reflection of the economy. Fuel costs have dramatically affected the cost of racing in that now it costs so much more to just get to the track.

Another trip South

Harriett and I will be returning to Sanford, FL to pick up the rest of the shop we bought out. We will leave Tuesday afternoon Aug 11th and will return about Tuesday the 17th. Hopefully this will wrap up that adventure. We will have the following items for sale.

There is a Van Norman rod boring and grinding machine that appears to have all or at least most of the tooling with it, A Tobin Arp bearing resizer for resizing .060 undersize and semi finished bearing shells with 4 boxes of tooling, a Kwik Way Boring bar (maybe an FN), a lathe with about 14 inch swing and about 6ft between centers that is exceptionally well tooled (including 4C collets with closer, new steady rest, and new follower rest). There is also a good hyd engine lift.

Winners

Charlie High racing engines in Moyock, NC reports a recent UARA win by Terry Alison in the #15 car at Friendship Speedway in Elkins, NC.

Jim Martin in the Keene Machine 5.0L hydroplane won a world championship at the Cambridge Powerboat regatta in Cambridge Maryland. His engine, built by Keene’s Automotive in Smithfield, VA, is on its second season without being freshened up.

John Parks picked up a win recently in Heavy Eliminator at US-13 Dragway in Delmar, DE.

Tommy Butler visited the winner’s circle at Stafford Speedway July 2nd in his #4 Late Model. He was powered by an engine from T/A Engines in Plainville, CT.

Pettit Racing Engines had a super night at Stafford Speedway on Friday the 30th. They powered three winning cars that night. Ted Christopher #13 won the SK Modified class. Chris Matthews # 29 won the Late Model Class and Eric Grant #11 won the DARE Stock class.
