Camcraft Newsletter
July 1, 2004 Dear Customers, June was a busy month for us. We recently acquired the assets of Taylor cams in Sanford, FL. Harriett and I went to Sanford to close the deal and to bring back a truckload of cams and masters. Bill Taylor was a respected stock car racer, engine builder, cam grinder and designer who retired from operating a machine shop near Raleigh, NC and moved to Sanford where he grew restless as a retiree. He opened a shop in Sanford specializing in racing camshafts. He used much of the same design software we have utilized for the last thirteen years. He passed away several years ago. We have not had a chance to unpack everything much less inventory them yet, but we have found a list of masters that include some 26 degree major intensity flat tappet masters for .842 lifters and even some 21 degree designs for .875 lifters. There are also some .447 lift roller masters with 30 degrees of major intensity. Bill was also well known for his Ford 2.0L and 2.3L OHC lobe designs. We also procured some equipment in this deal that we will want to sell when we get it back to Maryland. There is a Van Norman rod boring and grinding machine that appears to have all or at least most of the tooling with it, A Tobin Arp bearing resizer for resizing .060 undersize and semi finished bearing shells with 4 boxes of tooling, a horizontal mill that we will keep, A Kwik Way Boring bar (maybe an FN), A Kwik Way tool and cutter grinder we will likely keep, A lathe with about 14 inch swing and about 6ft between centers that is exceptionally well tooled (including 4C collets with closer, new steady rest, and new follower rest), and a good hyd engine lift. We also brought home a SBC torque plate and what appears to be a torque plate that bolts to a flathead Ford block and has provisions for mounting a boring bar directly to the plate instead of clamping to the mains. We hope to have these things in Maryland sometime this month or next. Let us know if you are interested in any of the equipment. WinnersPettit Racing Engines reports recent wins by Jeff Zuidima at Thompson Speedway in his #37 Late Model and Ted Christopher #13 SK Modified at Stafford Speedway and Chuck Dockerty #78 SK Modified at Stafford Speedway. L.A. Raceway in La Monte, MO recently hosted a special 4th of July show for the 305 Sprint car class. Cars from other tracks were invited to race using their home track rules, which allowed fuel injection for some cars even though the home track cars were restricted to carburetors. 20 cars started and when the smoke cleared, cars powered by engines from Schofield Machine in Clinton, MO took 1st, 2nd,3rd,5th, and 6th place. Pete White #45, Jesse Hockett #75, and Michael White 46 were the top three. Needless to say this impressive feat was accomplished with our cams. Way to go guys!! Their customers also have 5 of the top 9 points positions including 1st and 2nd. On the Modified Semi Truck pulling series, Tom Lindsay in his “Built for Business” Kenworth and wife Dana in her “Red Hot & Rolling” truck each have a win in the 4 pulls to date. Mike Sparacino has a win in the Heavy Eliminator class at US-13 Dragway in Easton, MD If you’re not running a Camcraft cam, You’re probably following one
We thank you for your continued support. Yours truly, Charles, Harriett, Clarence, Chuck, Stephanie, & Victoria
