Camcraft Newsletter April
1, 2001 Dear
Customers,
Spring is just around the corner. Weekends are already filled with sounds
of screaming engines at drag strips in many parts of the country and down South
the circle track crowd is beginning to join in.
Initial test results are in on our new SXTL profiles and they are good.
One team has raced them with good results and dyno testing has shown a definite
torque increase. NASCAR Late Model Stock engine builders have seen about a
10-lb/ft increase in torque. These are restricted engines running Bowtie heads
and 350cfm carbs.
Our new XCR hydraulic profiles are a big hit with customers. They have
great throttle response and increased vacuum. Some people worried that such
short ramps would be noisy, as one of the major cam companies has a noise
problem with one of their cam series that have very short ramps. Our cams are
quiet. This comes from dealing with a very experienced consultant that
consistently produces superior designs. I buy the ramp designs from him and do
the rest myself. 30th Anniversary Open House
Note date change!!! We
will be holding an open house May
5th to
celebrate 30 years of survival in the automotive aftermarket. We have several
commitments from suppliers and customers to put on seminars covering a variety
of topics. Learn how to degree a cam, install Nitrous systems,
The benefits of Dyno Tuning, How to select the proper cam for your engine and
much more Check out our web site for details or look for flyers enclosed with
your orders. Winners
The season openers at several southern tracks saw Camcraft equipped cars dominate the scene. The leading engine builder appeared to be Ronnie Presswood. In North Carolina, RP Racing Engines powered Jamie Yeltin in the #8 LMS to victories at Hickory Speedway March 24th and 31, and Tri County Motor Speedway March 23. At both races Jamie qualified on the pole and led the entire race. The ARA touring Late Model Stock series opener at Peach State Speedway in Jefferson, GA saw Wesley Huffman in the #5 car put another RP engine in the winner’s circle. At the ARA race RP engines powered 4 of the top 7 qualifiers in a field of 43 cars On the dirt scene, RP powered Bennett Contz #8 Limited Late Model car to a win at Antioch Speedway in Morganton, NC. At Concord Speedway in Concord, NC, Miller racing debuted their new Townsend built, Dr Pepper #21 Late Model Stock, powered by R & W Enterprises and driven by Morty Buckles. They had a few problems like a transmission that wouldn’t shift but their first time out effort resulted in qualifying 5th and finishing 4th. They were using our new SXTL profiles and only turning 6400 rpm. We will be at South Boston Speedway this weekend for the ASA race and a NASCAR Late Model Stock Car race on Saturday evening. We will be with Students and Alumni of Elon College. Our daughter is meeting us there and we will camp at Staunton river state park. On Sunday we hurry back to meet relatives coming down from New York to their family farm in Chestertown, MD. On Tuesday evening we go over to DC to visit a Niece who is in the Navy and stationed in Sicily. She is in DC for 2 weeks of special training. We haven’t seen her 14 or 15 years. It’s going to be a very busy weekend and next week for us. If anyone would like to meet us at South Boston Speedway or the state park, just look for us at the Elon hospitality tent. The dark gold Camcraft Chevy one ton dually will be at the campground with a camper in the back. We should get there before noon and Victoria will meet us there and drive us to the racetrack. We will all be wearing Camcraft apparel of some kind. See you at the races. Thank you all for your great support. Yours truly, Charles, Harriett, Shannon, Clarence, Cookie, & Dustin |
