Camcraft Newsletter
January & February 2008
Editor: Charles Reichard
Dear customers,
Christmas has come and gone. I hope you all had a pleasant holiday. We had a nice holiday in Ashville, NC with Betty and Victoria. It was strange not to have Stan with us. The New Year has arrived and we have high hopes for it.
I have finally gotten caught up with my newsletters by combining November and December and now January and February. Maybe March will have its own newsletter if I start on it now.
UPS prices have gone
up. Be sure to allow for that in your quotes to customers. We don’t know
exactly how much it is but it is significant.
Harriett and I will be at the AACA
(Antique Automobile Club of America) annual meeting in Philadelphia Feb 7th
and 10th. We will be promoting our Antique Performance cams and
Factory Performance Cams to the restoration market. I will give a
presentation on “How to increase the power of your vintage engine without
making it a hotrod”. The meeting is held in the Sheraton Philadelphia City
Center Hotel.
Following the AACA show we will be at the 4TH annual Racer’s Swap Meet in Lenoir, NC on Feb 16th. This event is sponsored by R.P. Racing Engines in Lenoir. It is at the Fairgrounds from 9:00 am TO 5:00 pm. We will likely wind up in Asheville for a couple of days afterwards.
We had very good results with our new
XTLE profiles last year. They are extremely aggressive lobes featuring 22
degrees of major intensity and they do not destroy the valve train. Last
years designs had .324 lobe lift and most were used with 1.7 rockers. This
year we have added some more lift and have the following lobes designed and
masters ordered. 236F/.332, 240F/.340, 244F.344, and a 240F.322. We also
added a 212H/.275 and a 230H/.323 hydraulic lobes to our HCR series. The 212
was specifically done to have reasonable lift with high ratio rockers like
the 1.8s found on the early Oldsmobile, or the 1.7s on BB Chevy.
When customers call to confer with me
regarding cam grind selection on cams they are sending in, the one thing I
ALWAYS
tell them is to put a note with the cam when they send it in. I seldom use
the words always and never, but in this case it is pretty applicable. By
note I do not mean “ Grind according to conversation with Charles.” I need a
reminder as to what we discussed and decided on. By the time your cam gets
here I will have talked to about 50 or more people about their cams and
yours becomes one of a big group. It’ll all come back with a little
reminder. I’m sorry if your box is sealed. Open it up or tape a note on the
outside. No note will delay your work at least 1 or 2 days!
Please include notes with your cams.
Be sure to check out our catalogs
featuring Antique Performance Cams and Factory Performance Cams. It contains
listing not available from other cam grinders. Go to
