Camcraft Newsletter

Dear Customers,
With Speedweek and the Daytona 500 behind us the 2007 racing season is officially underway. While many areas have another month or two before their tracks open, excitement is high and people are preparing for opening day. Despite the questionable economy and the crate motor controversy, everyone seems fairly busy.
We are pleased to welcome David Crane to Camcraft. David comes to us from Ocala, FL and has 14 years experience grinding cams at Crane Cams. He has already spent a week working with us last month and we are all looking forward to having him join us. David also brings with him welding and machining experience that will be valuable to us as well.
We have finally found the proper
additive to restore the right kind of protection needed for flat tappet
cams. It is ZDD+. It has the proper combination of Zinc and Phosphorus to
give the scuff protection equivalent to SF oil (Zinc alone doesn’t do it)
while retaining the improved quality of the newer oils. It should be part of
every oil change in all
flat tappet engines and of course is critical in flat tappet race
applications. We have it in stock, ready to ship.
Harriett and I recently attended the Antique Automobile Club Of America annual meeting in Philadelphia on Feb 8th and 9th. We had a booth in their trade show and I did a seminar on Increasing the Efficiency of Your Vintage Engine without making it a Hotrod. The seminar was very well attended and we had lots of favorable comments afterwards. For those of you not seeking out these restoration jobs, you are missing a good thing. Quality is most important to the collectors but price is quite secondary and they generally have plenty of time. We have laid the groundwork to help you sell these people several upgrades such a cams, balancing, and extra head work, slightly improved compression and more. Just remember most of them do NOT want a hotrod with a lopey idle. They are also used to a “pay as you go” program. This seems to be a growing and pretty stable market.
Don’t forget our new catalog devoted to
Antique Performance Cams. Call or e-mail for your copy. It is now on our web
site. All cams listed are ground on new castings and include Flathead
Fords, all Nailhead Buicks, Poly 318 Chryslers, 56-64 Olds 324, 371 and 394,
Y Block Fords, 270 & 302 GMC, and many more. Many of these castings are only
available through Camcraft. We prefer to send these via e-mail or download
from our web site. We also have a catalog listing Factory performance cams.
Just ask.

Be sure to put something appropriate in the subject line, like Antique cam
catalog, or it may get deleted. They are in Microsoft Excel format.
We are short handed as usual but relief will be upon us when David comes on board. Please try to order your cams a bit in advance of when you need them. Custom stuff is still under a week in most cases. I am doing most of the flat tappet cams and Clarence handles rollers and industrial cams. I am working some evenings and weekends to keep up. I do not take calls when I am grinding. I will return calls at specific times that Harriett will advise you of. Your understanding will be appreciated.
We have had a lot of good feedback on our XTLE profiles. They do require very good valve springs. Cheap springs may last only 2 or 3 races The cams tested made more torque and moved the power band up about 200 rpm. It revved to 7,000+ rpm easily. We have added a couple of higher lift profiles as well.

Remember the thing that sets us apart
from the competition is the commitment to help you go faster. We don’t want
to have to get new customers for each cam we produce. We depend on repeat
business and referrals. We can’t make a silk purse out of a sow’s ear but we
can help upgrade your racing program no matter what level you are.
We look
forward to helping you upgrade your racing program in 2008.
As
always, we thank you for your support.
Yours truly,
